"Mom, I got all startled"
I have always thought that Arthur would to overcome the difficulties connecting to having startle disease. As time goes by, I’m sure that Arthur will manage to somehow block out situations that are uncomfortable for him – and avoid what he dislikes.
While he is still small we put a lot of energy into being able to phrase understandable words to explain how he is feeling. We have, for example, a phrase called “a stupid sound”.
Arthur uses our phrases and expresses himself well. I asked him “how are you feeling?” when he was running around my mum’s house the other day. “I have this unsettled feeling in my body” - he replied. “Will you help me?” – together we got a blanket and a bowl of raisins out.
I always get impressed and happy when Arthur is able to express himself so clearly. It gives me certainty that he, without danger, is able to find way to manage the world around him.
… And for the first time ever, Arthur exclaimed the other day “mum, I got all startled!” when a sound made his small body shudder suddenly.
